Torrington Savings Bank Awards Two $10,000 Scholarships to Local Students
Torrington Savings Bank is pleased to announce that Kya Aranha of Burlington and Charlotte Carlson of Watertown are the Bank’s 2024 Scholarship Award recipients. Each year the Bank offers two graduating high school seniors a 4-year, $10,000 academic scholarship ($2,500 per year) towards college tuition.
Kya will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she will major in Physics with a minor in Astrophysics. She plans to eventually pursue a Master’s Degree in Astrophysics with the goal of becoming an Astronomy professor or working for NASA. Kya graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School with a cumulative GPA of 4.84. She was a member of the National Honor Society, National Foreign Language Honor Society as well as Class President grades 10 through 12. She was also a Region 10 Peer Advocate through the McCall Behavioral Health Network through all four years of high school. She has also been involved in the Burlington Land Trust, Region 10 Make a Mark, and has represented the high school on the United Way Youth Board. Kya has played the euphonium since 6th grade and was section leader grades 10 through 12.
Charlotte will be attending the University of Connecticut, Waterbury where she will major in Actuarial Science. Graduating from Watertown High School with a weighted GPA of 109.67, she was a member of the National Honor Society, and an officer in the National Mathematics Honor Society and National World Language Honor Society. During her high school years, she participated in Varsity Cheerleading, was on the Student Council, and was a member of the Interact and Stem Clubs. Charlotte also organized a school-wide volleyball fundraiser to support the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury her junior and senior years.
